When any model of Earthworks High Definition Microphones are used for close micing drums the output level of the microphone can be very high (as much as +24dBV) which may overload the input of some microphone preamplifiers. However, research has shown that a large number for both expensive and inexpensive preamps and mixers will handle high input levels without overload. For those preamps or mixers that will not handle high signal levels at their inputs, the LP1530 LevelPad is an ideal solution. The LevelPad is housed in a cylindrical stainless steel tube with gold plated XLR connectors at each end, allowing it to be plugged into the microphone cable between the microphone output and the mixer input. It will provide selectable 15 or 30 dB of attenuation by using the switch on the LevelPad body.
